Project mission

BioRefill consists in the implementation of an innovative strategy design to promote biogas activity in the Lombardy Region thanks to the creation of a cooperative network that unites several academic institutions, research organizations and industrial companies active in the biorefinery field. The project focuses on five main objectives: the production of new biomass not in conflict with primary food industry; the improvement of innovative energy production strategy in order to optimize the economic returns; the recycling of industrial process’ waste, such as Co2 from biomethane, to be converted in third generation biomass, the use of anaerobic digestion as pre-treatment of lignin residues to generate bioplastics; and the creation of a high skilled research team with the aim to establish a centre of excellence in Lombardy biorefinery sector.
