Project mission

The CODY project aims at providing the first global analysis of the CodY regulon in GBS and at investigating the role of this regulator in controlling and coordinating metabolism and virulence in this bacterium.
To reach this goal: 1. the role of CodY in the global control of gene expression will be assessed by performing RNA-Seq experiments on wild type and codY mutant GBS strains derived from the hypervirulent strain COH1 (ST-17), 2. The effects of codY mutation on GBS virulence will be assessed ex vivo and in vivo, 3. The mechanism of CodY-mediated regulation and the possible interplay of CodY with other transcriptional regulators will be investigated. By shedding light on the mechanisms that control GBS
pathogenesis, the results of this study will suggest novel approaches to prevent and deal with GBS infections.
