Project mission

BIOsmartPU is a research and development project aimed at creating sustainable polymeric materials and smart solutions for the fashion and construction sectors, with potential applications in the automotive and healthcare industries. The project integrates artificial intelligence models to optimize the formulation of bio-based polyurethanes and semiconducting polymers, alongside the development of high-efficiency printed electronics.

Expected results include smart technical textiles and flame-retardant, antimicrobial garments, potentially self-powered and integrable with sensors, as well as smart prefabricated insulating and self-supporting panels for more energy-efficient buildings. The value chain is designed according to circular economy principles, leveraging bio-based and recycled raw materials, waste recycling technologies, and the adoption of the SSbD (Safe and Sustainable by Design) framework to enhance sustainability and safety from the earliest stages of development.
